About History Of Kathak
Kathak is a classical dance form that originated in the northern parts of India, particularly in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. It is one of the eight major classical dance forms of India and has a rich history that dates back hundreds of years.
Kathak is known for its intricate footwork, rhythmic patterns, graceful movements, and expressive storytelling. The word "Kathak" is derived from the Sanskrit word "katha," which means story, and "kathaka," which means storyteller. This reflects the dance form's emphasis on using movements, gestures, and facial expressions to convey stories from ancient texts, mythology, and historical events.
About Us
Teaching philosophy revolves around nurturing a holistic understanding of Kathak. I believe that dance is not just about movement; it's a medium through which stories, emotions, and cultures are expressed.
Kathak performances, dancers often wear elaborate costumes, including traditional outfits and jewelry. The dance is accompanied by live music, usually consisting of tabla (a type of Indian percussion instrument), harmonium, sarangi (a string instrument), and vocals. We teach kathak, and you can learn it with us.
